Certification Training & Standards

ASCTI Certified Required

Desert Dogs K9 Search and Rescue/Recovery maintain strict operational standards to ensure professionalism, safety, and effectiveness in every mission.

Prior to deployment on any active search or recovery operation, both the K9 and the Handler are required to hold current certification through

the American Society of Canine Trainers International (ASCTI). This requirement ensures that every operational team has met nationally recognized training, evaluation, and performance standards specific to search and recovery work.

Handlers who are in the process of completing their certification may participate in operations in a flanking role under the supervision of a fully certified K9 team.

This allows developing handlers to gain valuable field experience while maintaining the integrity and safety of the mission

Desert Dogs K9 Search and Rescue/Recovery is committed to delivering professional, reliable, and highly trained K9 search services through skilled, certified handler–dog teams.

Our K9 teams are specifically trained and certified in multiple search disciplines to ensure the highest level of operational effectiveness in real-world conditions.

Each team specializes in:

Tracking / Trailing Search and Rescue (SAR) – Following human scent to locate lost or missing persons across varied terrain and environments.

Human Remains Detection (HRD) – Detecting the presence of human remains on land and in complex search areas with precision and reliability.

Area Search – Systematically covering large areas to locate missing individuals as efficiently as possible.

Area & Evidence Search – Conducting detailed searches not only for persons but also for critical evidence that may assist investigations.

A key component of our effectiveness is that we train and certify in the same environments in which we deploy. Our teams work in desert terrain, rugged outdoor conditions, and real-life settings that mirror actual mission scenarios.

This environmental-based training ensures our K9 teams are not only certified on paper but fully prepared for the challenges they will face in the field.

Desert Dogs K9 Search and Rescue/Recovery is dedicated to maintaining high standards of training, certification, and operational readiness so that when called upon, our teams are ready to perform with professionalism, accuracy, and dependability.
